Pros: This product is illegal to use in Australia when connected to PSTN. I bet the supplier never approached Austra for approval nor did they advise the user that they could be hit with a heavy pealty if cought.

Pros: Sounds handy when power is off.
I think you would find that they draw very little power, which wouldn't cause a problem, older phones have a screen, but no independant power.
Cons:
Other thoughts: Would these work in Australia?

Illegal in the US! Rating: [1 of 5 Stars!] |

Pros:
Cons:
Other thoughts: Part 68 of the US Federal Communications Commission's telecommunications regulations states that any device that connects to the phone line and is not actively communicating must present a resistance of at least 5 MΩ. Anything that draws a significant amount of current from the phone jack has the potential to disrupt landline communications for users in the vicinity.
Telcos have equipment to monitor this stuff. Don't be stupid.
